“A day in the life of a hospice nurse. A poem written for those who are no longer here.”

Wait a minute, wait a minute she says with her expressive aphasia.

Although stumbling on her words was a normal part of her life — this phrase was different.

Wait a minute before her life slips away.

Wait a minute before another stroke occurs.

Wait a minute before she can’t remember who she is again.

Just wait — a minute.

I look over to her husband — the most patient man I’ve ever met. He’s willing to wait every minute for his sweet Diana.

He hasn’t left her side since she got here. He’s the only one who knows the woman behind the words that never match.

He’s her minute & she’s his life.
